How I’m getting my body back in shape after pregnancy
Aug 30, 2023Pregnancy is a wild time and on top of all the craziness your body changes sooooo much!!! Which of course because you’re growing a human! It’s common sense that you’re going to gain weight but it can definitely be a shock, especially postpartum. Through out my pregnancy I always felt super confident despite getting bigger and bigger. I loved my baby bump and feeling my baby kicking in there, except when she would kick my belly button, that was the weirdest feeling lol. Anyway, I knew postpartum would be a bit difficult at first, but as a personal trainer, macro coach, nutrition specialist, pre/postnatal specialist, I knew I had all the tools to get back in shape and lose the baby weight. It was hard seeing my body postpartum because it didn’t feel like mine. I honestly felt a little sad but as I always tell my clients, patience is key and it’s going to take time! So I took my own advice and continued to give myself lots of grace and pep talks, and I still do!
So what have I done/what am I doing to get my body back in shape?
First I let myself recover after my c-section by resting, small movement, prioritizing protein/eating enough, NOT cutting calories right away/even thinking about restricting myself. I focused on recovery and taking care of my baby. My husband and I made a great team when it came to taking turns sleeping and caring for our baby. My mom was also here helping us so much, I don’t know how I would have stayed sane without all her help, but that’s a post for another day!
At 2 weeks I started incorporating small walks, stretching, deep core/pelvic floor rehab. It felt so good to get moving a little bit and doing what I could. I had a pretty smooth recovery despite having a c-section.
Things that have helped me get to where I am currently with my results:
- Following my customized program(weights/walking, core recovery)
- Keeping up with nutrition 85-90% of the time (we’re all busy and I’m not aiming for perfection, I’m aiming for consistency) -prioritizing protein
- Not talking negatively about my body/celebrating the small wins
- Getting my water in daily (a gallon+)
- Planning ahead and Not giving up!!!!!
- Getting sleep!!!! (This is not easy with a baby but doing my best!)
The most important thing to having a smooth recovery and getting your body back in shape is what you do BEFORE/DURING pregnancy!
Pregnancy is not a time to let go of healthy habits and let yourself go. The healthier you are the healthier and easier your pregnancy/postpartum will be. The benefits for you and your baby are undoubtedly the most important! It’s not just about you anymore so keep that in mind and use that as motivation before and during your pregnancy!
