Journey to Getting Pregnant
Aug 03, 2023Ian and I always knew we wanted kids we just didn’t know when. We would go back and forth until we finally knew, which is a crazy feeling! We were ready and we were sooooo excited. I had been seeing so many women I knew posting on social media they were expecting and I couldn’t wait to be able to share when it was my time. We started trying in December of 2022. I really thought it was going to happen the first time, I was wrong. Then came January and again, no luck! I knew we had just started trying but I was a little sad and frustrated because in my head I was thinking well how do people accidentally get pregnant so easily when I am trying and it isn’t happening. Time was passing and in the mean time I hired a holistic registered dietitian to help me figure out why I was experiencing so much hormonal acne(this had been going on for a couple years). As I started working with her I made many dietary changes. I cut out dairy, soy, gluten and alcohol. I was eating more Whole Foods and less processed foods. I was healing my gut in the process as well. I started feeling the best I ever had and was in the best shape of my life! My hormonal acne started fading and my hair started growing! In the mean time we took some time off from trying for a baby because I needed to have a dental procedure done and could not be pregnant for that. We planned a nice getaway to Mexico and then in May I had my dental work done. After that it was go time again! I ended up getting pregnant in May and when we found out we were so excited!!!!! I’m not sure if working with my dietitian helped with that but either way she helped me heal my gut and restore my hormones and a beautiful baby came out of that. The week before I missed my cycle I was feeling so bloated and tired for no reason. My Oura ring(data/sleep tracker) kept telling me my body temperature was going up, a lot (which is a sign of pregnancy) at the time I wasn’t going to get too excited because I had been let down before but it was weird how my temp kept going up and I wasn’t sick! Finally, my cycle was late so I took a test on July 1st, one week before my 30th birthday.
I will never forget when that pregnancy test came out positive. What a great birthday present haha. The first person I told was obviously Ian and then the doggos haha. Shortly after we FaceTimed our family and friends. We had planned a trip back to the east coast for August before even getting pregnant so it was so much fun being able to tell everyone else in person during that trip. My advice for anyone frustrated on their pregnancy journey is to track your ovulation, but even before that to MAKE SURE you are ovulating! You can only get pregnant for a short period of each month so it can actually be pretty challenging despite how movies or tv shows make it seem!
